Brooks Ghost Amp Review: More Life in this Ghost?

Ellis and I have worked our way through the MCU, Star Wars, and The Lord of the Rings. Next up is Pirates of the Caribbean, a series I missed most of the first time around. Jack Sparrow always seems a little out of control, stumbling from one situation into the next, but somehow he keeps ending up in the right place at the right time. I still cannot tell how much of that is skill and how much is just dumb luck.

The Ghost Amp also was not quite what I expected when I first heard the name. The Ghost has always been the dependable one in the Brooks lineup, but the Amp is trying to add some speed without completely changing what people already like about it. Brooks uses DNA Hype foam and its SpringRamp setup to give the shoe a little more life. The question is whether the Amp can be more than just a quicker Ghost. Let's find out.

THE DEEP DIVE

Is this shoe for you?

If you already enjoy the Ghost but want something with a little more pep, the Ghost Amp should be on your list. It makes the most sense for runners who prefer a firmer, more performance-oriented fit and want one shoe that can cover daily miles while still feeling good when the pace picks up. Add in a more approachable price than many super trainers and the Amp becomes an easy option for runners who want some speed without going all the way to a race-day shoe.

THE WRAP UP

Brooks did more than just add "Amp" to the name and expect the shoe to be a faster version of the Ghost. The firmer ride, quicker transition, and more performance-oriented fit give it a different personality while still keeping enough of that familiar Ghost feel. It is not a race shoe, but it gives you more to work with when the pace picks up. Maybe Jack Sparrow would call that part of the plan all along.
